How to teach with excellence
Article Abstract:
Tertiary-level teachers should ensure they are well informed about innovative ideas in teaching practice. But they should be careful to use teaching methods which meet their students needs. Through reevaluating their own work they will find areas which require improvement. Gathering information on their abilities from other teachers and their students will help them to form a clear picture of their failings. Teachers should understand how students learn. They should devise targets of achievement for their students and review their students' progress on a regular basis.

Get students to run the show
Article Abstract:
Students can be involved in teaching, as is shown by the case of students studying the psychology of sport. They negotiate a collaborative approach and choose the content of the syllabus, with some help from the teacher. The students are provided with materials such as video equipment, and are given help with internet searches. They can be assessed through presentations or through a traditional exam. The students are learning useful research skills, and this method is time-consuming for the teacher, rather than being an easy option.

How to put scholarship into teaching
Article Abstract:
To bring good scholarship into teaching it must meet the same standards as research. The UK government has set up 24 centres throughout the country to help improve the quality of teaching in the various subjects. Those attending the Institute for Learning and Teaching must aim to achieve more than keeping abreast of new ideas in their subject. They must show they have undertaken research into teaching their subject and have been able to communicate their findings. The use of new technology will enhance their learning.
