Passion that doesn't diminish with age
Article Abstract:
In the light of the decision by 64 year-old Nobel laureate Sir Harry Kroto to leave the UK and take up a research position at Florida State University, the question of whether research funding dries up for scientists in the UK when they reach the age of 65 is examined. The situation in the UK, which has a mandatory retirement age of 65, is compared with the US, which has no official retirement age and where academics keep working for as long as their mind is still sharp.
