Top-ups row could be ticket to power
Article Abstract:
The Liberal Democrat party's promise of free higher education could be a vote winner at the next general election, possibly even winning them dozens of additional seats, claimed the Lib Dems' senior education minister, John Howson, in a speech at the party's annual conference in Bournemouth, UK, in week commencing 19 September 2004. Howson claimed that the party's popularity with students could see them win 35 seats in a general election.
