In the shadow of the volcano
Article Abstract:
Thousands of people living near volcanoes have died needlessly in volcanic eruptions because of earth scientists' lack of communication skills and the discipline's failure to focus on forecasting techniques. Volcanologists are mainly taught to consider the geological aspects of volcano deposits, while volcanology has been adversely affected by the conflicting interests and opinions of different research groups. There may also be conflicting military, political and commercial interests to be resolved. People in the vicinity of a volcanic eruption are unsure of whose advice to follow.

When the Earth boils
Article Abstract:
Volcanic eruptions can affect global climate. The Tambora volcano of 1815 prevented the sun's rays from reaching the earth, causing crop failure and famine. Recent eruptions have affected crop growth by reducing temperatures. Volcanoes are the emission of gaseous, liquid or solid products onto the earth's surface.
