Why has Clarke thrown us to market forces?
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the apparent decision by the UK government to reform the higher education sector and open it up to market forces are examined. It is argued that the evidential basis of the need for any major reform of the higher education sector to take place is unclear and that if changes are to take place, the imposition of market forces on the sector is the wrong way to achieve them.

We'd like to be America
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the UK Government's plans for the restructuring of higher education and how these plans seek to change the higher education system in the UK into one resembling that of the US. It is argued that this approach is flawed as the US higher education system has serious problems of its own that need to be addressed.
