Article Abstract:
The Department of Health's Expert Group of Climate Change and Health will publish a report this week on the consequence of extreme weather, including the spread of infectious diseases and food poisoning. Extreme weather is becoming more common worldwide and this has led to a flurry of research interest into how the health infrastructure can be adapted to cope.

Age-old problem bedevils some fields more than others
Article Abstract:
The demographic review of the social sciences by the Economic and Social Research Council has shown how different disciplines are affected by an ageing academic workforce. Over half of staff in edu cation, 42 percent in social policy, 47 percent in social work and 41 percent in management and business are aged over 50.
