Lecturers eaten by the dragon
Article Abstract:
Malaysia needs to focus on ways to retain and attract academic staff in higher education, which is expanding in response to economic growth. The country has lost some 600 lecturers from four large universities in the eight years to 1993, with better pay offered by the private sector. There is a need for a minimum of between 800 and 1,000 additional lecturers if the country is to achive a ratio of one lecturer per fifteen students, a desirable international standard.

Sympathy for the devil
Article Abstract:
The Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe died in mysterious circumstances in May 1593. He met some friends in a London tavern, and was stabbed to death during a quarrel. Marlowe was known to hold controversial opinions for this time and had worked for the secret service. His plays included 'Tamburlaine,' 'Doctor Faustus' and 'The Jew of Malta.' A contemporary of Shakespeare, Marlowe's plays were more popular with audiences then.
