Article Abstract:

An analysis of the academic world in Israel and the rise of a form of McCarthyism in Israel relating to those academics that support the Israeli government and its policies towards Palestine and those that are critical of the policies. Many scholars in Israel who are critical of the government's policies have found themselves under growing attack, with politicians questioning the right of academics to become involved in public debates about social and political issues. It is argued that the international academic community needs to support free and open academic debate of issues in Israel, rather than launching a boycott against Israeli academics.

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the damage done to the way of life of the Ogoni people in Nigeria by the oil exploration and extraction work done on their land by oil companies such as the Shell Petroleum Development Co., the Nigerian subsidiary of Royal Dutch/Shell. Also examined is the fight of the Ogoni people against the oil companies and the ways in which the military government in Nigeria has attempted to quash these protests.
