Look sharp, spot the signs
Article Abstract:
Primary School Teacher Rita Harries is fully supporting the introduction of a meningitis vaccination campaign for students after her daughter, Elizabeth, died of the infection. Elizabeth was a undergraduate at Manchester University before contracting meningitis, which rapidly caused her death when she was aged just 20 years old. The vaccination is 80% effective and gives protection for three-four years. Some universities, such as Cardiff, have already recognized the risk to students from meningitis and have implemented their own immunisation programme for new students.

How to help students with dyslexia
Article Abstract:
The UK 1995 Disability Discrimination Act requires universities and colleges to have developed sufficient support strategies and provisions for students with dyslexia. Some 4% of people have dyslexia. It is a condition which affects the way sufferers organise their work, read text and use written language. Some dyslexic students have found their tutors are not very helpful. The students are often unaware of the support they can claim, such as the Disabled Student Allowance. Tutors also need to revise the way students with dyslexia are taught.
