Article Abstract:
Grainne Conole, professor of education innovation at Southampton University, describes the difficulties she faces in winning recognition and developing a professional niche for the e-learning services that she provides. She argues that the learning technology community to which she belongs plays a vital role in spanning the educational and technical aspects of e-learning but that her and her colleagues are not being properly recognised and there is a danger that many learning technologists could leave the educational sector unless they see a way forward in their career structure.
