Mature learners are in need of flexible friends
Article Abstract:
The Higher Education and Funding Council for England (Hefce) must put its money where its mouth is when it comes to mature and part-time students and provide a realistic support system. It is argued that if Hefce and the UK government are to prove that they are serious about widening participation in higher education by encouraging mature students and enhancing part-time provision, then the existing funding system will need to become more flexible and realise that for part-time and mature students, costs are greater and their numbers are more difficult to predict than for a conventional full-time 18-year-old student.
