Misleading talk of what is a graduate
Article Abstract:
The UK Higher Education Quality Council discussion paper on standards among graduates does not assist in producing a flexible higher education system to meet the needs of the 21st Century. The paper questions the definition of graduateness, without focusing enough on the fact that graduateness cannot remain consistent, given the number of courses and changes within society. Courses offered by the new universities appear able to prepare students for employment and for the needs of the country.

Article Abstract:
UK universities do not need government intervention in order to keep standards high, and in this competitive age uniform regulation is not suited to the higher education market. Quality assurance cannot cover the many reasons why students might favour one university over another, nor take into consideration their tastes. A policy of assessment led by market demands would be the most appropriate way forward in appraising the quality of universities.
