'My supervisor is great--but I can't get up in the morning'

Four postgraduate students, Jane Suter, Helen Taylor, Alisa Chukanova and Lisa Willats, describe the difficulties they have faced after the first six months of their postgraduate study. Difficulties identified include a lack of motivation and financial problems, although all are happy with their work and the supervision they are receiving.

Spirits rise as isolation ends
Article Abstract:
A group of four PhD students in the UK relate their feelings as they come to the end of their first year of study. Some of the students have experienced a sense of isolation in their research as they are not mixing with others doing the same sort of work as them, however, they are all making progress with their work.
