Nottingham takes pay leap
Article Abstract:
Nottingham University has announced its own pay structure, based almost entirely around performance. The move by Nottingham brings the existing national pay system to the brink of collapse and comes just weeks after university employers concluded two years of pay talks with a pay offer and the reform of career structures. Imperial College London, the University of Central England and the Bolton Institute have taken similar decisions to Nottingham.

Unions on course to accept low offer
Article Abstract:
The three lecturers' trade unions in the UK are expected to accept a pay offer for 2005 that they had recently dismissed as "hugely disappointing" as they prepare to rally support amongst their members for a battle for an improved pay increase in 2006. The deal will see most academics receiving a 3% pay increase in 2005, with staff on low pay receiving slightly higher increases.
