Leading scientists have expressed their concerns that the beliefs of the newly appointed Education Secretary and Higher Education Minister could have a detrimental impact on scientific research in the UK. The new Education Secretary, Ruth Kelly, is a devout Roman Catholic and has made it known that she could never support stem-cell research, while the new Higher Education Minister, Kim Howells, has expressed his doubts about the part humanity is playing in global warming.
