Out with ye olde classics?
Article Abstract:
The study of English at degree level is undergoing a small revolution, with courses in creative writing gaining in popularity and subjects such as science fiction, crime fiction and children's literature being added to a rich and diverse curriculum. This growth of new topics of study does not mean that subjects such as Shakespeare are being abandoned, however, interest in the study of old English is decreasing as, alongside postmodern poetry, it is the least popular amongst students.
