Oxford college in survival fight

Harris Manchester, the newest college at Oxford University and the only college at the university that caters exclusively for mature students, has become embroiled in a financial controversy that has left a question mark hanging over the college's endowment and even its name. Serious questions have been raised about the financial viability of the college and Ralph Waller, the principal of the college, has been accused of ongoing management failings.

Cash boost may raise pay hopes
Article Abstract:
English universities will see income rise by 39 percent to GBP 19.1 billion, from GBP 13.9 billion, between 2003-04 and 2010-11, according to a report from the Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi). The findings will have an impact on the 2009 pay review as improving staff pay will be an option for many university managers.
