Plaza suite in the stars
Article Abstract:
The idea of orbital hotels has started to attract serious interest as adventure tourism has grown to a $30 billion/yr. market. A 1995 study from the Journal of Practical Applications in Space suggested that the market for a low Earth orbiting hotel could be as high as 500,000 space tourists/yr. if the price could be reduced to $20,000. Sixteen teams have registered for the X-Prize, an international competition offering $10 million to the first team to transport two passengers and a pilot to an altitude of 100km twice within a fortnight. The X-Prize was established in 1995 by Peter Diamandis.

A cultural evolution
Article Abstract:
The expanding economy in China may indirectly help young Chinese artists particularly those who are not following the traditional style of Chinese art. The newly rich Chinese are investing some of their wealth into art which is seen as having prestige. In 1979 some Chinese artists displayed their work featuring political subjects at an unofficial exhibition. Young artists in the 1990s are trying to avoid ideology as a subject matter. Chinese painting is still popular and the centenary of the artist Pan Tianshou was celebrated in China in Apr 1997.
