Postgraduate to take race case to the Lords
Article Abstract:
Nadeem Ahmed, an Asian postgraduate who was excluded from Oxford University after failing a "flawed" examination in which he was less favourably treated than a white colleague, plans to take his allegations of racism to the House of Lords. Ahmed intends to take the case to the Lords following the decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold an April 2002 County Court ruling that he had not been racially discriminated against by either Fritz Zimmermann, his former supervisor, or by Oxford when he was removed in 1999 from a masters degree course in medieval Arabic philosophy.

Suresh Deman, a serial litigant who has, since 1996, won at least UKPd100,000 in out-of-court settlements and tribunal payouts as a result of race discrimination claims, has won two more victories at employment tribunals. Deman has been awarded UKPd15,000 as a result of claims that Nottingham University rejected him for a job, as well as seeing a tribunal find in his favour after claiming that the European School of Economics was guilty of discrimination because it failed to shortlist him for two jobs.
