Grade system awarded 'fail'
Article Abstract:
The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) has warned, in its briefing paper on the system for awarding student degree classifications, that degree classifications are unfair on students and unfit for purpose. The paper will increase momentum towards abolishing the traditional system of awarding first, upper and lower class seconds and third-class degrees.

Degree grades 'are too crude'
Article Abstract:
A government-backed task group is to recommend that the UK's traditional degree classification system of firsts, seconds and thirds be scrapped as it is too crude to be meaningful. The recommendation is expected to come in a paper scheduled to be published by June 2004. The report is not expected to propose a replacement for the existing system.
