Students at some universities in the United Kingdom can earn first-class degrees with average marks of just over 50%, according to a paper produced by London Metropolitan University. The paper reveals that Sunderland University has the lowest possible marks for getting a first, at 50.8%, while the University of East Anglia is the hardest university at which to get a first, with the lowest possible average mark being 68.75%.

QAA delivers thumbs down to foundation degree trio

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) has found a host of failures on foundation degree courses in a further blow to the reputation of the government's flagship two-year qualification. The QAA has declared 'no confidence' in standards on three foundation degree courses offered by Southampton Solent University, London Metropolitan University and Bournemouth University.
