RAE jobs boom yet to peak

The academic jobs market in the United Kingdom is booming ahead of the 2008 research assessment exercise (RAE) and staff are set to enjoy the benefits of sustained recruitment ahead of the exercise, claim senior figures in the academic sector. Recruiters expect that a new phase of recruitment will kick in in 2006 as institutions attempt to attract top researchers in the 12 months leading up to the RAE's submissions deadline.

Staff 'buy' research time
Article Abstract:
A new initiative at Keele University will allow researchers to 'buy' time away from teaching duties to carry out research. The Keele2006 initiative will see creation of seven new research institutes where staff can use research income to reduce their teaching duties.
