Texting helps to fill courses

Acceptances for university places by students is down by only 0.6 to 0.7 percent in 2006, vs 2005, according to senior sources at the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), showing that the new top-up fees regime is not deterring potential students. National figures, however, hide a mixed acceptance level for different universities, with some seeing acceptance down by up to 6.5 percent.

Two-year degrees may hold key to wider participation
Article Abstract:
Two-year degree courses could be a way to encourage more students from poorer backgrounds to university, Higher Education Minister Bill Rammell has told university heads. Mr Rammell said universities need to take a more diverse approach to provision of higher education in the future.
