Snares in the charmed circle
Article Abstract:
The growing availability and power of information technologies mean that the university sector could be transformed by the emergence of the 'virtual university'. This has great implications for traditional residential teaching universities, since increasingly students could learn from a distance, via a modem and computer. In the short-term, this may simply mean universities offering online electronic resources. However, in the longer term true 'virtual' universities may develop, with course providers marketing their learning resources via the virtual university.

Make lectures less boring
Article Abstract:
Some college teachers consistently bore students by using excessive jargon, presenting new information at the wrong pace and assuming students have prior knowledge. Students quickly become bored if the lecturer fails to use illustrations appropriately or speaks monotonously. Teachers should focus on the presentation, as well as the content, of their lectures. Students will rapidly lose concentration if they take notes for excessive periods and prompts should be introduced every 15 minutes to keep students alert, such as asking for questions.
