Rebirth of a nation
Article Abstract:
Film producer Akbar Ahmed is seeking to show the western world that Muslims can have principles and be tender via his motion picture 'Jinnah,' which portrays the founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, as a firm but fair-minded, incorruptible hero. Jinnah was not portrayed sympathetically in the movie 'Gandhi.' 'Jinnah' has received much bad publicity in Pakistan due to controversies over the choice of actors, but Ahmed believes the publicity will ultimately prove good. Some observers claim Ahmed's interpretation of Jinnah is propagandist rather than historically correct, although some academics claim this is harmless.

Bitter sweet symphonies
Article Abstract:
Sociologist Tia deNora has studied the role of music in womens' lives. She found some women would use music at parties to help engender a party spirit. deNora points out how women chose not to listen to music which is linked to hurtful memories. deNora questioned women aged between 18-71 years, in the UK and the US, for her study. deNora has also studied the use of natural birth control. Her book on Ludwig van Beethoven was criticised by some music experts, who challenged her supposition that Beethoven became successful partly because he had good contacts.
