Article Abstract:
An overview of the university sector in Africa and why a core of African scholars are going against the continent's brain drain and are returning to institutions in Africa. Jibrin Ibrahim, a political scientist who returned to work as a country director of Global Rights, a Washington-based non-governmental organisation, in Abuja, Nigeria, after working in Sweden and Switzerland, notes that a scholar in a foreign country is simply an intellectual resource, whereas in their own country they are stakeholders involved in the fight for the development of the community.

Proposal reignites the war of words
Article Abstract:
Academics in South Africa are debating the issue that sparked the student uprising in Soweto in 1976, the use of Afrikaans as an instruction medium. The issue is currently a live one at Stellenbosch University where it's convocation has made a submission to a language policy review in support of a long-standing demand that all academics and students be proficient in Afrikaans.
