Student seeks to challenge OIA ruling
Article Abstract:
Lydie Banot, a former PhD student at Westminster University, has vowed to fight for full vindication after rejecting the UKPd750 compensation award made to her by the Office for the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA) in her mistreatment case against Westminster. The OIA partially upheld Banot's complaint against the university but she contends that it did not address the key element of her complaint. Banot's challenge is believed to be the first challenge to one of the OIA's decisions since it was established in January 2005.

Student's human rights 'were violated' claim
Article Abstract:
The human rights of Kevin Wilkinson, former PhD student were violated by the High Court when it dismissed his claim for over UKPd100,000 in damages from Aston University, according to Cherie Booth QC, leading human rights lawyer. The High Court stated that it would not hear Wilkinson's claim because he should have taken it to Aston's quasi-judicial visitor, who, according to precedent, has exclusive jurisdiction over student complaints. Booth claims that the system contravenes the European Convention of Human Rights.
