Solitary cells of scholars cut off by loss of community
Article Abstract:
Many academics are expressing a feeling of severe isolation in their workplace, likely to be brought on by structural and psychological factors. The absence of a staff common room that would enable interaction with fellow academics is a contributing factor to isolation and increasing workloads provided by the target-driven management do not allow time for meeting with others leading to further isolation within the workplace community.

There's no going back as culture changes
Article Abstract:
The increasing number of female academics in higher education is likely to lead to a significant shift away from the male-dominated culture of the past. The introduction of more family-friendly policies and focus on equality issues at universities is expected to make the feminization of recruitment practices and working conditions permanent.
