Staff angered by failure rule

Middlesex University has been accused of compromising exam standards after imposing a "de facto" maximum failure rate for degree courses of 15%. The charges have been refuted by the university which states that its policy of officially investigating all failure rates in excess of 15% is a best-practice technique that has won praise from academic inspectors.

Diversify to survive
Article Abstract:
An analysis of how universities in the United Kingdom can adapt to global market forces. It is suggested that whilst the bureaucratic impulse of the state may be to create uniformity in the higher education system, the market prefers diversity and therefore a diverse, stratified, hierarchical system of higher education would probably be the best option.
