Taste in a low-rise stranglehold
Article Abstract:
Many buildings being constructed today are regarded by modernists as a dream of functional beauty and by classicists as a nightmare of hideous high technology. There are varied opinions as to whether architecture should be a fine art or subservient to the demands of society. It has been observed that when speaking of culture the English always look back into their history and heritage while the rest of Europe think of what they are doing at present and will do in the future. The claims made by architectural classicists might be interpreted as stating that everything good has already been done.

Is an interview really necessary?
Article Abstract:
Many universities are ceasing to use interviews as part of the process of selecting students, on the grounds of time and cost. Some universities, such as Oxford, still interview candidates, as do admissions tutors for certain courses at a number of universities. Candidates' academic qualifications are seen as most important, and their personal statements also carry weight. Teachers' references may not be reliable since some schools give glowing references for all candidates.

Training in awareness of the problem is increasing in the US, and many large companies run their own programmes.
