The euro trasher
Article Abstract:
Former Welsh Secretary and failed Conservative Party leadership contender John Redwood stresses the need for a proper debate before Britain adopts the proposed joint European currency, the euro. He points out that the euro would deprive Britain of a significant asset, the ability to devalue against other currencies. He also maintains that no exchange rate for the euro can satisfy every country in Europe. Redwood is encouraged by the Confederation of British Industry's loss of enthusiasm for the single European currency project but is disappointed by the lack of debate among British academics.
