It's not just navel-gazing, the future is at stake
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the higher education system in the United Kingdom in the light of efforts by Oxford University to reform its governance system. It is contended that the difficulties faced by Oxford, namely how to remain a liberal arts high-intensity teaching institution while simultaneously retaining its claims to be a world-class research university, are problems shared by the British higher education system as a whole.

Staff allege 'bullying tactics' at Oxford
Article Abstract:
The ruling 3,500-member Congregation at Oxford University has been called on to reject plans for mandatory staff appraisals proposed in an academic strategy green paper as a result of concerns that managers will use the appraisals to discipline staff. The Congregation has also been called on to demand a full report on the reorganisation of Oxford's libraries.
