The great outdoors classroom
Article Abstract:
Environmental resources technology (ERT) students learn about wildlife and land management careers through an on-site lessons curriculum at Pennsylvannia's Prince Gallitzin State Park in Patton. To enroll in the ERT program, the students need to complete all main academic requirements except senior English by the end of their junior year in school. In the senior year, ERT students attend only the vocational technical school in Altoona, PA, and take their English class an hour before school starts. The program creates several opportunities for students to work alongside private and non-profit organizations.

When the walls break down
Article Abstract:
The emphasis on academic education, along with technical training, in the curriculum of the Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA), Massachusetts, has been nationally appreciated as well as criticized. The curriculum, implemented by the RSTA executive director, Larry Rosenstock, includes interdisciplinary courses, internships, and career pathways. Academic skills are enhanced by connecting them to hands-on-activities and work-related lessons. The critics argue that this decreases the time students spend in learning a trade.
