The making of the middle class
Article Abstract:
A comparative study found that polytechnic college students spend more time studying than university students, the latter spending correspondingly more time in social activities. College teachers felt they must work harder on the polytechnic students to overcome possible deficiencies in public school education. University students were confident of being employed in their chose field and aimed for management. Polytechnic students preferred unconventional careers, often because of their working class backgrounds. Even though both types of institution award degrees they are not regarded as equal by many employers.
