Knowledge is strength
Article Abstract:
Usage of knowledge is a key to economic growth, according to Charles Leadbeater, whose views are taken seriously by British prime minister, Tony Blair. The think-tank, Demos, argues that cultural industries are important for the British economy and those who work in them are more likely to have been through higher education. Business and cultural skills are needed for cultural entrepeneurs, according to London School of Economics' Danny Quah, who argues that universities should be more flexible in providing a mix of skills.

Why do Britain's have-nots have less?
Article Abstract:
The UK saw income inequality rise sharply during the 1980s, but economists have paid relatively little attention to the issue. The increased inequality in the UK is important because it did not form part of a general global trend, and because for the first time the changes in income distribution are significant rather than small as in the past. The increased inequality is due to factors including unemployment and the shift in demand from unskilled labour to skilled labour.
