Article Abstract:
London Institute, London, England, Rector Sir William Stubbs points out the increasing use of computers by students is allowing learning to become more allied to the needs of the student. The institute had made good use of information technology (IT) to help link the 26,000 students and 14,000 academics who are situated at 21 different locations. Oxford Brookes University has been rewarded for the way it has developed and managed its IT systems. Students have access to computers 24 hours a day. Computers can be used for administration, research, teaching and management in universities.

Article Abstract:
The outcome of allegations that computer software concern Microsoft is an illegal monopoly could have very significant repercussions for how people purchase in the early 21st century. It is becoming clear that governments will have to take firm action to prevent large companies becoming monopolies, especially in high-technology sectors, where there is a tendency for anything that is ahead in market share to get further ahead. Some observers believe that the Microsoft case will determine developments in all high-technology industries, certainly in the US, for the next 20 to 50 years.

Article Abstract:
The economist, Patrick Minford, argues that European monetary union (Emu) will not bring great benefits and will create problems. Smaller firms trading with the US and other countries outside Europe, as well as Europe, could be affected by currency uncertainty, though larger multinationals will be less vulnerable, and companies only exporting to Europe will benefit. A single interest rate will be imposed on Europe, and this will create problems in the more depressed areas, which will be less able to combat recessions.
