The new pessimism: wasn't the Cold War better?
Article Abstract:
The exhilarating optimism felt at the end of the Cold War has quickly turned to bleak pessimism. The war in Yugoslavia, massacres in Rwanda, the violence committed by an American in Oklahoma showed that the Iron Curtain is not what is keeping the world from progressing. Intellectuals have exacerbated the downward trend of morale with their flawed analyses of world state, and popular literature has fed the anxiety of the white population. Clearly, there is a need to see things from a different perspective: all things pass and the future is always there.
