The past imperfect
Article Abstract:
UK museums first appeared in the 18th and 19th centuries as a response to the increase in education and the movement of the population from rural to urban areas. In the 1970's and 1980's the museum concept was expanded to include artificially-built heritage centres, where modern techniques have reproduced the sounds, smells and noises of a previous age. Critics say they give a false view of the past, and generate profits for the developers while giving a shallow and limited view of the historical period they represent.

Troubling postcards from the past
Article Abstract:
Spanishness has been an integral part of playwright and essayist Jose Maria Rodriguez Mendez's central theme of works. Although his plays highlight the individual self-expression, they offer a cynical view of contemporary society in which the participative creativity is destroyed by political control of mass media.
