The virtual past master
Article Abstract:
Historian and author Niall Ferguson believes historians should remove the intellectual restrictions they place upon themselves and instead consider historical study in terms of the potential effects of what might have happened in history. His book entitled 'Virtual History' speculates on how history might have developed if key historical events had had opposite outcomes, such as if the UK had not entered the First World War. Ferguson claims the traditional methodology of historical study is inadequate.

A slow foxtrot with Silvester or Dante's circles of hell
Article Abstract:
Academics disagree on what should constitute a canon of essential literary works. A survey of academics revealed a diversity of opinion from Virgil, Homer and Dickens to Dante's 'Inferno' and Victor Silvester's 'Modern Ballroom Dancing.' Academics agreed that it is a matter of individual choice which works represent civilized values of sufficient merit to be preserved.
