Article Abstract:
There is a possibility that Jews will cease to be a major element in European society. This forecast has been made by demographers, but it is a sensitive issue, and the notion arouses a strong reaction. Fertility levels of immigrant Jewish groups drop to level of those in the indigenous Jewish population. Jews have been leaving eastern Europe despite the end of communism. Jews have made a significant contribution to European history, and the loss of this contribution would be felt by all of Europe.
