Too young, too far, too fast?
Article Abstract:
A working group has been established by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority to consider the facilities that schools and colleges can provide for gifted children since teenagers who enter universities early rarely receive the social and emotional support they need. The working group is investigating ways in which gifted children can study subjects in depth while remaining with friends of their own age. However 14-year-old Alexander Faludy did not want to wait until he was 18 to go to Cambridge University to study for a first degree. He will begin his studies there in Oct. 1998.

Stalked by fear
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common for academics in the UK to be forced to address issues relating to harassment. In some cases, academics may be placed under unacceptable pressure by students, possibly receiving many telephone calls or e-mails. In other cases, the harassment may come from colleagues or from other members of the university staff, such as a secretary. Stalking is a complex psychological problem, and it can be very difficult for the victim to know how best to respond. Taking legal action can be very stressful, and the victim may be left feeling extremely vulnerable.
