Top-ups may fund pay rises
Article Abstract:
Universities in the UK intend to spend three quarters of the money they generate from top-up fees on facilities and staff, with some institutions expected to return no more than a tenth of the cash they raise to needy students. Universities are expected to raise UKPd430 mil from top-up fees when they are introduced in 2006, of which over UKPd300 mil is expected to be invested in staff and facilities. This will come as a surprise to many academics who had stated that top-up fees would not help them perform better in their jobs.
