US is losing its grip on lead

The global competitiveness of America is being threatened by the failure of universities to educate those needed to replace baby-boomers in high-level jobs and who have reached retirement age, according to the latest 'national report card' from the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education. The US has fallen behind other nations in the education of the workforce and the rising cost of higher education is exacerbating the problem.

Market-smart allies join forces to sharpen up act
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the formation of The Learning Alliance, a non-profit utility launched by the University of Pennsylvania and involving 11 organisations in total, are examined. The alliance was formed in order to help universities learn how to remain "mission centred" after becoming "market smart" in a market that is becoming increasingly fractured into a collection of semi-autonomous business units.
