When Johnny got his gun ... he loved killing
Article Abstract:
A number of soldiers have recorded how they enjoyed taking part in violent acts and killing in conflict. Some gathered the belongings of those they had killed as evidence of their deeds. Some women also admit to taking pleasure from killing the enemy. It has been suggested many of the First World War soldiers who were ill from a mental breakdown were suffering because they were unable to either run away or engage with the enemy. US soldiers, in Vietnam, gained a higher reputation if they were able to kill more of the opposition.
