When is a call for alms a call to arms?
Article Abstract:
Muslim charities provide extensive humanitarian aid to those in need but critics have accused some of these organisations of straying into terrorist territory. Islamic charities are often criticised by those in the West of mixing politics with humanitarianism, a charge, it is argued, that cannot be denied. However, it is suggested that it should be borne in mind that in Muslim eyes the West, most notably the US, has been doing exactly the same for many years and the Islamic charities are only responding in kind.

Hail the heroes who brave the front line
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the debate taking place amongst academic epidemiologists about their role in society and whether or not epidemiologists should engage directly in public health work. While modern epidemiologists contend that the science they are involved in is complex enough without having to deal with real-world issues of problem solving, it is argued that there is actually no better motivation for improving the scientific methods of epidemiology than using them in real world situations.
