Who sent in the police?
Article Abstract:
A student demonstration at the University of British Columbia, Canada, in Nov 1997, resulted in the assault and arrest of many of the students. It has been suggested the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were ordered to act against the students due to the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation conference, which was being held at the university. Some observers have blamed Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. The police are being investigated by the RMCP Public Complaints Commission. The students were protesting against the presence of Former Indonesian President Suharto.
