...believe US visa restrictions will damage science
Article Abstract:
An employee of the University of Texas, writing under the pseudonym of Jane Smith for legal reasons, argues that visa restrictions imposed by the US since the terrorist attacks in 2001 will damage science by discouraging skilled scientists and students from joining the country's academic sector. The difficulties that "Smith" and her husband have had in getting their permanent-resident status renewed, despite having children who were born in the US are described, along with the impact that this has had on their ability to go about their academic work.

Schools for the Enlightenment or epiphany?
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the contention that allowing faith and religion a more prominent role in the curriculum would mean allowing more unreason and intolerance. One side of the argument contends that the Bible has, in fact, been a powerful spur to science, while the other side argues that the opposite is true, but that faith-based schools should be brought more into the mainstream of education in order to counter religious fundamentalism.

Come on, celebrate!
Article Abstract:
The director of Save British Science analyses the inability of the British to celebrate their achievements in the world of science, despite the fact that there is good reason to celebrate science in Britain. It is argued that the politicians need to do more to recognise out scientific achievements, even they does feel threatened by a world that they do not really understand.
