Physics leads the field on pay
Article Abstract:
A report into university staffing trends has revealed that university physicists are the best paid university academic staff, with 21% university physicists earning over UKPd50,000/yr in 2003-2004, with a median salary of UKPd41,330/yr. The report, produced by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, revealed that academics in other sciences fields, such as chemistry, biology and mathematics, are also amongst the best paid, whilst academics in the fields of law, education and the creative arts are amongst the worst paid.

Article Abstract:
A report of a steep increase in professorships in the decade till 2005-06 is presented. This rise is due to competitive efforts by universities to attract and retain the best academics.
