Article Abstract:
Virtual universities will be the way in which growing global demand for university education will be met, rather than expansion of the traditional classroom environment. It is argued that for the virtual universities of the future, intelligent tutoring systems could rid academics of the drudgery they currently have to deal with, freeing them up to pursue research and assist individual students find meaning in what they have learnt.
