CES 2000: the lighter side

A number of fun and innovative products were featured during the International Consumer Electronics Show in Jan 2000. Some of these products include Kash-N-Gold's Harley Davidson universal remote, Night Owl Optics' Night Vision Gear and Radica Games Ltd's voice recognition and motion sensor products. The show also featured Oregon Scientific's device that receives warnings about weather and other emergencies and a number of handheld learning tools from Franklin Electronic Publishers.

Accessories complement home theater systems

These include SatCom Electronics' DBS-TV PASSPort flat-antenna system line, Monster Cable's Monster Power Home Theater Automatic Voltage Stabilizer, Panamax's POWERMAX 8 DBS+3 surge protector and Maxell's Disc Shields and DVD jewel cases. Gemini also unveiled its improved Magnavox-branded universal remote control line while Terk Technologies' launched its compact rooftop antenna.

The Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Assn changed its 1999 projections for total digital video disc (DVD) sales from 1.8 to 3 million after 1 million DVDs were sold in Jun 1999. Thus, DVD player manufacturers are gearing up for the expected sales growth with new product developments. Companies developing or launching players include Aiwa, Toshiba, Philips and Panasonic.
